About
Welcome to Fitz Emporium, art by Elizabeth Fitzpatrick
As with almost everyone, I began drawing and coloring from the moment I could hold a crayon. The difference being that I was encouraged to continue. I'm not quite sure what I did to warrant the push toward creativity, maybe my little Batman comic books did the trick.
As I became more immersed in creating, I was drawn more and more to art and artists that weave color and pattern into their work. I love almost any kind of folk art - American, Mexican, African - all of which combine color, patterns, circles, squares and other shapes.
Of course I have been influenced by the great modern artists like Picasso, Matisse, Klee, but perhaps my first art influence was Peter Max. When I was 10, every Sunday the New York Times printed a double page spread of a Peter Max piece. I collected them and couldn't wait to see the Sunday paper (plus, the Sunday comics).
There is a certain meditative quality when painting a bunch of squares or dots within a certain shape. While doing this mundane activity, you can leave yourself and when you return, it's art!
Thanks for stopping by the menagerie of all the things! Sign up for my newsletter. I send it out once a month.
Keep calm and art on,
Elizabeth
